Getting Ready
Earlier this evening I was wondering, like usual, what on earth am I going to write about? As I was standing over the kitchen sink eating a piece of my moms meatloaf, I was even asking myself “should I do a piece of chocolate for this week?”. I’ve got so much to do! I have laundry to do, I have to pack, I’d like my room to be somewhat descent so that when I come home my clean sheets with their vanilla fragrance will greet me instead of smelly socks sitting In a hamper full of dirty clothes will deter me. And, I really need to dye my hair. So, my room is still messy, my laundry isn’t finished, I haven’t begun to pack, and here I am sitting in front of my computer pouring out my heart to each of you. Well hey, the laundry can wait. Tomorrow morning my mom and I are going to get into the car and drive to West Virginia for a ladies retreat.
Many women that I know, including myself, have this marker in our DNA that tells each cell in our brain that we have to over pack. For instance; since this particular trip is two days and one night I know that I’m going to have to pack: two bras, five pairs of underwear, five pairs of socks, at least three or four pairs of shoes, all of my make up, all of my hair care products, three pairs of pants, four tops, two pairs of pajamas, and the list just goes on and on and on.
So here’s the question. Why do people put so much emphasis on making sure that they pack all of the right things getting ready for a little trip but rarely do we hear of people who are making their hearts and minds available to the Lord when our trip with Him is going to be eternal? I hope that you and I both understand that our lives here on this earth is only temporary. I want to be ready for His cause. When I think about being ready I imagine myself as a runner at the start of a race…( yes, this is fiction), my feet are in the position to push me off, my fingertips are in the ready position, and my head is up and looking straight. And, everyone that sees that I am poised in that position is also aware that I am about to run. Likewise, when people see that your life is established in such a way that brings God honor and glory, they will be able to tell that you live your life for Him.
Here’s what the Bible says in Luke 12:35-38 “be dressed for service and keep your lamps burning, as though you were waiting for your master to return from the wedding feast. Then you will be ready to open the door and let him in the moment he arrives and knocks. The servants who are ready and waiting for his return will be rewarded. I tell you the truth, he himself will seek them, put on an apron, and serve them as they sit and eat! He may come in the middle of the night or just before dawn. But whenever he comes, he will reward the servants who are ready.” Ladies, be ready. Allow the Lord to pack the suitcase of your heart with Himself. ‘Cause only He knows how to pack for eternity.
Have a blessed day!
Love,
Dede
