Naive For Chocolate
Anyone who reads these pieces of chocolate can obviously observe that I love chocolate! Not all kinds, but certainly dark chocolate. Well when I think of all of the different kinds of chocolate I am taken back to my childhood…about twenty-something years ago. My sisters and I were playing the famous game, Truth Or Dare. Now I loved playing games with my sisters however TOD was usually the most scary-at least for me. See, playing TOD with them meant that they could torture me but with my permission because we were playing a friendly game! Now let’s get real!! They would talk me into choosing “dare” and almost always they would have a secret powwow to determine what I would soon be ingesting. With devilish grins they would say “ok Sissy, now close your eyes, and open your mouth.” Those are the worst words you could say to me even at the ripe age of $%. This particular time they put a heaping, large spoonful of unsweetened cocoa powder in my mouth. You can imagine the look on my face when I tasted that. I mean, my stomach was doing flip-flops, my throat was completely closed off, my eyes were watering, and I couldn’t help but to make that terrible heaving noise…BLAH. It was like I was living out Psalm 69:3 “I am exhausted from crying for help; my throat is parched. My eyes are swollen with weeping, waiting for God to help me”. Of course their gratification came instantaneously. You could tell. They were laughing so hard that they probably peed their pants…just maybe. Here’s the kicker!! Every time we played truth or dare I would always get stuck with the “dare” and I would always get a mouth full of unsweetened cocoa powder!! Why couldn’t I remember to say “Truth”!! Why did I always fall for the same trap? In Proverbs 26:11 it so eloquently states “As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his foolishness”. It really does say that! You know, it’s taken me a long time to learn some lessons that had to be repeat mistakes for the lesson to really stick. The Bible says in Proverbs 16:31 that “Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained by living a godly life”. I’ll tell ya what…if it wasn’t for Nice-n-Easy‘s lightest, golden brown, y’all would be shocked at the amount of gray and silver shades that would grace this girls head! Anyway, what is important to remember is that God wants us to do things his way. If we can let go of our own ambitions and stop thinking that we can choose better for ourselves than God can, I will guarantee you that repeat mistakes will be made without ever learning the lesson. Do things His way. Don’t continue to eat the unsweetened cocoa powder when you could have Godiva’s dark chocolate.
Have a wonderful week!!
Love,
Dede
